AUTHORITY OF STAROSTA IN KREMENETS CITY IN 1560–1627s

The article studies the authority of starosta when it was headed by the Zbarazhsky princes. Starosta as a representitive of the Supreme Ruler was in charge of a castle. The article examines starosta’s authority as a government official in his administrative unit. After the reforms of 1564–1566s, when the new city government and new administrative units were created, the power of starosta increased. It is found out that a mandatory condition of getting authority was a sedentaty life in the region as well. The article confirms that only a rich landowner could become a starosta. It highlights the activity of government officials appointed by the Zbarazhsky princes according to the materials of Kremenetskyy Provincial Court. It is found that city officers were the starosta’s clients.
